About Maritime Speed & Unit Converter

The Maritime Speed & Unit Converter turns the everyday conversions of life at sea into a single live calculator. Type a value into any field and every other unit in that category updates instantly: speed in knots, km/h, mph, m/s and ft/s; distance in nautical miles, statute miles, kilometers, meters, feet and fathoms; plus depth, pressure (bar, PSI, kPa, mbar/hPa, mmHg, inHg) and temperature. A dedicated wind tab links knots, km/h and the full Beaufort force scale.

It is built for mariners, navigators, fishers, dive planners and anyone reading mixed-unit charts, logs or weather bulletins. There is no software to install and no account to create. The tool is free and runs entirely in your browser, so every value you enter stays on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.

How to use

  1. Pick a category tab: Speed, Distance, Depth, Pressure, Temperature, or Wind / Beaufort.
  2. Type a number into any unit field for that category.
  3. Read the converted values that appear instantly in every other field.
  4. Click the copy button beside a field to grab its result.
  5. On the Wind tab, enter knots, km/h, or a Beaufort number to see the matching force and sea state.
  6. Open the full Beaufort scale to compare every force from calm to hurricane.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data kept private?+

Yes. Every calculation runs locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type is sent to a server, and the tool is completely free to use.

Which Beaufort scale does the wind tab use?+

It uses the standard Beaufort wind force scale from 0 (calm) to 12 (hurricane force), with the conventional knot ranges and a short sea-state description for each force.

What is the difference between nautical miles and statute miles here?+

A nautical mile is fixed at 1,852 meters, while a statute (land) mile is 1,609.344 meters. Both are available in the Distance tab so you can convert between charted and road distances.

Does it handle fathoms and brazas for depth?+

Yes. The Depth tab converts between meters, feet, fathoms (1.8288 m) and brazas (1.6718 m), which is useful when reading older or regional charts.

Can I convert temperature for sea and air readings?+

Yes. The Temperature tab converts freely between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin, so you can match instrument readings to forecast units.
